Breast Reconstruction

With advancements in diagnostics and more effective management of breast cancer, more and more women decide to add breast reconstruction to their treatment.

There are a number of methods to reconstruct a breast lost as a result of mastectomy, injury or a congenital defect. Most frequently the procedure involves implantation of a breast prosthesis following preparation of the tissues using a tissue expander or using additional tissue transferred from other body areas.

Usually, the reconstructed breast is slightly smaller than the healthy breast. Therefore, breast symmetrisation is required which is the second stage of reconstruction. For this purpose, the second breast needs to be reduced or lifted. The last stage of the process is the reconstruction of the nipple / areola complex.
